Countdown to Superbowl

Steve's Pro Football Pool Rules

The pool uses a somewhat unusual format. Each player will only pick each team to win once during the season. Once you have picked a team, you will never pick them again.
Since there are 32 teams in the league, you will make a maximum of 32 predictions.

Schedule:
  • Weeks 1-8: Predict the winner of one game of your choosing.
  • Weeks 9-17: Predict the winners of two games of your choosing.
  • Playoffs, Wild Card: Predict the winners of two games of your choosing.
  • Playoffs, Divisional: Predict the winners of two games of your choosing.
  • Playoffs, Conference Championships: Predict the winner of one game of your choosing.
  • Super Bowl: Predict the winner.
How it works:
Each week, predict the winner of one game (or two, later in the season). If that team wins, you get a point. If that team loses, you get nothing. The team you predict to win is no longer available to you. So, if you use the top-notch teams during the regular season, you might enter the playoffs with fewer teams available. The playoffs are worth more points than regular season games, so you must choose wisely (WC games are worth 2 pts., DP games are worth 3 pts., Conference Championships are worth 4 pts., and the Super Bowl is worth 6 pts.)

Example 1:
Super Bowl XXXIX, the New England won the Super Bowl. If you had picked them during the regular season, you would have received 1 point if they won that weekend, and 0 points if they lost. If you held them until the playoffs, you would have received 2, 3, 4, or 6 points, depending on when you decided to use them.

Example 2:
The Browns were terrible last year. If you picked them during the regular season, you would have received 1 point if they won that weekend, and 0 points if they lost. If you held them until the playoffs, however, you would have received 0 points because they were on vacation.

Strategy:
Don't try to figure out the whole season now. Don't use the best teams now, either. Use bad or mediocre teams for the first few weeks, and then give it more detailed thought later in the season.

Making your picks:
You can make or change your selection at any time prior to the start of the game.
